Green Version Damascene Sriyan Kurukulasuriya MD, CMD

Clinical Asst. Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine, Family & Community Medicine, University of Missouri at Columbia. Staff Geriatrician and Medical Director HBPC Program, Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia, Missouri

In a letter to Rodger Bybee, Dr. Kurukulasuriya wrote,

I am sharing with you the answer I gave my son this night to his very important question,

"Dad, what really made you come to the USA?"

"Thirty years ago diagonally across the Globe from the USA, in the Asian country of Sri-Lanka as a high school senior, my biology class had adapted the book by BSCS, (called then as the BSCS Green Version - An Ecological Approach).

This wonderful book gave me a detailed insight into the eco-friendly American passion for preseving mother nature by educating its students about the marvels of the biosphere and the living world. It kindled a strong fascination in me to some day visit America, experience the diverse "Biomes and its biology" this book so vividly described.

Quote 1This dream led to my coming to USA as a physician 14 yrs ago. The original BSCS textbook I used is, to this date, preserved in my dad's office back in Sri Lanka as a nostalgic memento of a "book that stimulated his son to search a new frontier a world away."

Accordingly, I want you to know that this BSCS book has yet a very special place in my life.

In summary, I am writing this to you as a gesture of humble appreciation to all those noble folks at BSCS who produced a marvelous product with a powerful message that resonated across the Globe.
