Joseph Taylor

Dr. Joseph Taylor has been directing the BSCS Center for Research and Evaluation since 2007. This appointment followed one-year tenure as assistant director of the center. Joe’s role in the center includes conceptual leadership and oversight on all research and evaluation studies as well as proposal development for new projects. Joe joined the BSCS staff in 2001 as a science teacher professional development and research specialist. His work in professional development involved helping schools and districts throughout the country design and deliver standards-based professional development for science teachers. This includes professional development programs designed specifically to support curriculum implementation.
Joe taught high school physics and mathematics before completing a doctoral degree in Science Education at Penn State University (2001). At Penn State University, Joe designed and taught the course: Fundamentals of Science, Technology, and Engineering Design. This course focused on helping prospective elementary school teachers learn science, technology, and engineering concepts as well as make connections between these concepts and the K-6 science and mathematics curricula they would soon implement. From his research and other experiences in this course, Joe has written a number of articles and book chapters pertaining to K-6 engineering and technology education and related teacher preparation issues.
