BSCS Biology: A Molecular Approach
A Molecular Approach BSCS Blue Version, 9th edition Introductory biology, honors level; Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, 2006.

Correlation with National Science Education Standards

Blue Version focuses on conceptual biology that is taught and learned through inquiry-based pedagogy; therefore, it aligns well with national content and teaching standards. Although the program was not designed to address explicitly each content standard, an examination of the Table of Contents reveals substantial overlap with the life science standards for grades 9-12. Moreover, BSCS's active approach to learning science is e active approach to learning science is exactly what national and most state standards promote as the preferred method for teaching and learning.

Blue Version's approach to assessment emphasizes questions and problems that require higher-order thinking and problem-solving abilities, not the regurgitation of disconnected facts. Generally speaking, this is the approach favored by standards. Blue Version's assessments are more challenging for students than recall-based assessments, but research has demonstrated that meaningful assessments are themselves learning experiences that encourage long-term retention.
