Our calculators provide intervention researchers with an empirically-based effect size estimate for use in a priori power analyses.
This application is designed to generate estimates of expected effect sizes for interventions with student outcomes based on known intervention or study characteristics. These estimates can be used by researchers in the study planning stage (i.e., in a priori power analyses) or by decision-makers to inform programmatic decisions in science education. For details of the study upon which this calculator is based, please see Taylor, Kowalski, Polanin, Askinas, Stuhlsatz, Wilson, Tipton, and Wilson (2018). BSCS received substantial assistance in the design of the calculator from Zhipeng Hou, Northwestern University.
