Towards a More Humane Genetics Education

Professional Development to Support Teaching Humane Genetics

Humane Genetics is a new approach to genetics education. Our research and education team, led by Dr. Brian Donovan, has now published a study in Science that demonstrates that this NGSS-aligned curriculum increases student understanding of complex genetics and decreases tendencies toward racially-biased thinking. This recent study supports previous findings that Humane Genetics improves student outcomes in genetics content knowledge, and it does so with a focus on social justice.

Interested in teaching Humane Genetics at your school but unable to participate in research? We are currently developing a new version of the Humane Genetics curriculum and professional development (PD) for teachers outside of our research program. Sign up to be notified when the curriculum and accompanying PD are available. Or contact us to start a conversation about how your district can get involved.
