Transforming science education through research-driven innovation

Professional Learning for Three-Dimensional, Phenomena/Problem-Based Teaching and Learning

At BSCS, our professional learning facilitators are committed to supporting science educators as they navigate three-dimensional, phenomena/problem-based teaching and learning.

Whether you’re looking to learn more about what next generation science teaching and learning could look like in your classroom or you’re ready to fully immerse yourself at an upcoming workshop, BSCS has something to offer right now.

Upcoming Webinars

Join us for a free webinar to enhance your knowledge, confidence, and abilities to lead three-dimensional, phenomena/problem-based science teaching and learning in your classroom.

Upcoming topics include:

  • Classroom Discourse: Creating Productive Classroom Environments for All Students
    • Experience how classroom agreements can create productive and safe spaces for elementary students to share their ideas, let those ideas change and grow, and engage with each other as a community of learners.
  • 5D Classroom Assessment
  • Anchored Inquiry Learning
    • Explore how you can use the new BSCS Anchored Inquiry Learning (AIL) instructional model to develop learning experiences that motivate students with significant, real world phenomena and problems. Learn how AIL cycles of inquiry and sensemaking culminate in student agency.
  • Scaffolding the Science and Engineering Practices
    • How can we better support our students in developing their abilities in the science and engineering practices? Break out groups will examine a learning strategy for analyzing and interpreting data in elementary, middle, and high school break out groups.
  • Leading for Equity
    • Far too often equity efforts are relegated to the sidelines instead of embedded in core leadership tasks. Consider how anchoring science leadership in equity principles can remove barriers to science teaching and learning.

Upcoming Workshops

Join us for an upcoming workshop to enhance your knowledge, confidence, and abilities to lead three-dimensional, phenomena/problem-based science teaching and learning in your classroom.

Each workshop is designed for a specific grade band, targets particular science and engineering practices and cross-cutting concepts, and highlights an energy-focused or earth science-focused phenomenon.

Workshops will be hosted in person at BSCS HQ in Colorado Springs, Colorado, throughout June 2025. Classroom teachers, teacher leaders, and district science leaders are encouraged to attend.
