Studies of STeLLA professional learning go an important step further. These studies show that STeLLA significantly impacts both <strong>science teaching<\/strong> and <strong>student achievement in science.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BSCS\u2019s STeLLA Colorado study is a prime example. In other words, STeLLA both improved and accelerated student learning!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Development and Expansion of STeLLA<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Following STeLLA CO, we believed there was a huge opportunity to refine, test, and expand STeLLA\u2019s impact across contexts and grade levels. And that\u2019s exactly what we\u2019ve done.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Here are two of many examples.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">STeLLA Online<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A few years ago, we wondered: would a fully online version of STeLLA be just as effective as our proven in-person version?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research Study:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4th and 5th Grades<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>41 Teachers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>800 Students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>15 States<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What We Studied<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>STeLLA Online\u2019s impact on 4th and 5th grade teachers and students, in comparison to the impact of in-person STeLLA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What We Found<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>STeLLA Online significantly impacted student learning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Both STeLLA Online teachers and their students scored higher on tests of science content knowledge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teacher pedagogical content knowledge and classroom practice improved significantly during STeLLA Online.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And there is no significant difference between the impact of STeLLA Online and in-person STeLLA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What This Means<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, we are only reaching a fraction of the teachers and students across the country we could be reaching with STeLLA. In another study, we wondered: would STeLLA have an impact on high school science&nbsp; teachers and students?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research Study:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">24 Teachers (1\/3 of JCPS&#8217;s biology teachers)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>1,500 Students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 District: JCPS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What We Studied<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>STeLLA\u2019s impact on Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) biology teachers and students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What We Found<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>STeLLA High School significantly impacted teacher pedagogical content knowledge and classroom practice.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students had significant gains in their science content knowledge and abilities to reason, use models effectively, and construct explanations and arguments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What This Means<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>STeLLA is effective at the high school level.
