For years, districts and schools across the country have been asking us the same question: \u201cWhen can you bring STeLLA to our science teachers?\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, for the first time, BSCS is offering a fully-online version of our proven STeLLA professional learning program and upper-elementary science teachers can participate in STeLLA from anywhere in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power of the Program<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

STeLLA Online is not your typical online professional learning course. It\u2019s research-based. It\u2019s immersive. It\u2019s interactive. And it\u2019s led by expert facilitators who will guide participants to become highly effective science teachers \u2013 over the course of one, life-changing school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research shows STeLLA Online is highly effective in improving science teaching and student achievement in science. Teachers are calling it a game changer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

STeLLA Online provides the same value as the traditional in-person version, plus a few bonus benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Certified Pathway (see description below) underwent rigorous impact studies and it was shown to have significant student science learning outcomes and teacher practice and science learning outcomes. The additional pathways create ways for more educators to access the power of STeLLA professional learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STeLLA Online supports teachers in learning to use effective teaching strategies through a video-based lesson analysis approach.<\/p>\n\n\n

Upper-elementary science teachers can choose between three STeLLA Online pathways. Each pathway equips teachers with a deep understanding of STeLLA\u2019s highly effective teaching strategies and gives teachers an opportunity to practice analyzing videos to identify their impact on student engagement and learning. All teachers will also have an opportunity to conduct work synchronously and asynchronously within their professional learning communities (PLCs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Introductory Pathway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

$2,330 per teacher<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Purpose: <\/strong>Learn the key principles of STeLLA and how to effectively implement the STeLLA teaching strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breakdown: <\/strong>Explore 7 Earth’s Changing Surface models and learn teaching strategies\/analyze videos within PLCs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time Commitment: <\/strong>Summer only (approximately 8 weeks = 44 hours)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proficiency Pathway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

$3,142 per teacher<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Purpose: <\/strong>Learn the key principles of STeLLA and how to effectively implement the STeLLA teaching strategies. Put theory into practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breakdown: <\/strong>Intro pathway + teach 7 Earth’s Changing Surface lessons and analyze videos of participants within PLCs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time Commitment: <\/strong>Summer + Fall (approximately 8 weeks in the summer + teaching and 3 fall evening study group sessions = 52 hours)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certified Pathway — RECOMMENDED<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

$3,820 per teacher<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Purpose: <\/strong>Learn the key principles of STeLLA and how to effectively implement the STeLLA teaching strategies. Put theory into practice over an extended period of implementation, reflection, and improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breakdown:<\/strong> Proficiency pathway+ reflect on effectiveness + teach 6 Water Cycle Lessons and analyze videos of participants within PLCs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time Commitment:<\/strong> Summer (10 week summer course) + Fall (teach ECS lessons, film one lesson, and attend 6 evening study group meetings) + Spring (attend 5 evening study group sessions and complete asynchronous work in between) (approximately 20 weeks = 90 hours)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
