Assessment Study Opportunity for Middle School Science Teachers

BSCS Science Learning is recruiting middle school science teachers to participate in an assessment study during the 2025-2026 school year. The study is focused on gathering data to help investigate the validity of middle school three-dimensional assessment tasks. The study will take place online using Zoom and a web-based testing utility. Participating in this study will help us understand how to better design science assessments that work with high-quality instructional materials.

Requirements

Teachers who participate in the study would administer pre- and posttests before and after students experience target OpenSciEd units and select students to participate in Zoom interviews with project staff. We are also looking to collect ELA scores for the students. In order to participate, middle school teachers must

  • Be planning to use at least one of the following middle school OpenSciEd units during the 2025-2026 school year:
    • 6.2 Thermal Energy
    • 6.3 Weather and Climate
    • 7.3 Metabolic Reactions
    • 7.5 Ecosystems
    • 8.1 Contact Forces
    • 8.6 Natural Selection
  • Be able to reserve enough computers that have a reliable internet connection for all students in your classes on the day of testing (one computer per student).

If you are selected to participate, we will work to obtain permission from your principal or district before the research activities begin.
